III International Meeting on Continuum Theory
June 7-9, 2007
Puebla, Mexico
Mathematics
Host: Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla

Description:
This is the first announcement of the III International Meeting on
Continuum Theory to be held in Facultad de Ciencias Fisico-Matematicas de
la Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla from June 7 through 9, 2007.
The meeting is sponsored by the Facultad de Ciencias Fisico-Matematicas de
la Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla, Instituto de Matematicas of
the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y
Tecnologia and the Sociedad Matematica Mexicana.
The meeting site will be the Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla
campus. There will be six one hour invited lecturers. Contributed
presentations are invited. The deadline for submission of abstract is
27/4/2007. Please submit your abstract through the Topology Atlas.

The City of Puebla is located about 95 miles east of Mexico City, and it
is the capital of the State of the same name. It has an altitude of 6000
feet over the sea level, and the temperature during the Summer is about
80F. Puebla was founded in 1531 and has a set of buildings religious and
nonones built in the baroque style representative of the XVII, XVIII, and
XIX centuries. In 1987, UNESCO declared downtown Puebla a Cultural
Patrimony of Humanity. The Sate of Puebla is well known for its textile
industry, its craftmanships, and its food. Very close to Puebla City,
there are several archaeological sites of Prehispanic Cultures. Also you
can see, from many parts of the city, two of the most beautiful volcanos
of Mexico, namely the Popocatepetl and the Iztaccihuatl. If you want to
have more information about Puebla City, please check the web page:
http://www.tourbymexico.com/puebla/puebla/puebla.htm

To go directly to Puebla's airport could be very expensive. So we suggest
to fly to Mexico City and catch a bus right outside of the airport. There
is a bus ride every 30 minutes. The cost of the ride is about 125.00 MXN
(mexican pesos).

If you have any question, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely
Isabel Puga, Sergio Macias and Sam Nadler

Geometric Topology Conference -- Beijing 2007
June 18 -- 22, 2007
Peking University, Beijing, CHINA

http://www.math.pku.edu.cn/gt2007/

We are organizing a week-long Conference in Geometric Topology. It will be
held at Peking University, during June 18-22, 2007.

This Conference in Geometric Topology is aimed at reflecting the current
state of the art in the study of low dimensional topology and related
subjects. The specific range of topics we intend to cover is well
represented by the interests of the members of the advisory committee. The
conference consists of two kinds of talks: invited talks (50 minutes) and
parallel session talks (25 minutes).

There is no registration fee for all participants. The conference will
provide free food and guesthouse on and around the campus for all
participants: every invited participant will get an individual room, and
usually every two participants may share a room. If you wish to pay the
room near the campus by your own, we can help you to make reservations.
There will be no financial support for travel.

If you are interested in coming, or wish to give a talk, please click
registration. Invitation letters for international participants will be
sent out before April 1, 2007 for you to apply for a visa.

We expect this conference to be an enjoyable and mathematically exciting
meeting, and we are looking forward to seeing you at Beijing.

Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford
http://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/~galway11

Organizers: Ben Chad and Rolf Suabedissen

The Galway Colloquia series was established in Galway in 1997 and has

Advances in Set-Theoretic Topology
in Honour of Tsugunori Nogura on his 60th Birthday
Centre for Scientific Culture "Ettore Majorana"
International School of Mathematics "G. Stampacchia"
June 9-19, 2008
Erice, Sicily, Italy

http://www.math.sci.ehime-u.ac.jp/erice/

Organizers:
Szymon Dolecki (Burgundy University, France)
Yasunao Hattori (Shimane University, Japan)
Dmitri Shakhmatov (Ehime University, Japan)
Gino Tironi (University of Trieste, Italy)

Topics:
Convergence properties and convergence structures;
Dimension theory and related fields;
General topology and its applications in other areas of mathematics;
Hyperspaces, set-valued mapping and their selections;
Set theoretic methods in mathematics;
Topological algebra (topological groups, functions spaces, etc...).

Location:
According to legend, Erice, son of Venus and Neptune, founded a small town
on top of a mountain (750 metres above sea level) more than three thousand
years ago. The historian Thucydides (~ 500 B.C.), writing about events
connected with the conquest of Troy (1183 B.C.) and the escape on the sea
towards the West, said that the Elymi - historical founders of Erice -
were survivors from the destruction of Troy. This inspired Virgil to
describe the arrival of the Trojan royal family in Erice and the burial of
Anchises, by his son Aeneas, on the coast below Erice. Homer (~1000 B.C.),
Theocritus (~300 B.C.), Polybius (~200 B.C.), Virgil (~50 B.C.), Horace
(~20 B.C.), and others have celebrated this magnificent spot in Sicily in
their poems.

>>From the 13th to the 19th century the town of Erice was under the
leadership of a local oligarchy, whose wisdom assured a long period of
cultural development and economic prosperity which in turn gave rise to
the many churches, monasteries and private palaces which you see today.

The beautiful Aegadian Islands can be reached by frequent regular boat
service from the Trapani harbour (20 to 90 minutes, depending on the
island). Splendid beaches are nearby at San Vito Lo Capo, Scopello, and
Cornino, and a wild and rocky coast around Monte Cofano: all less than one
hour's drive from Erice.

The conference halls as well as many rooms are situated in former
monasteries. The working conditions of the Majorana Centre are excellent.
Conference halls are equipped with technological devices for lectures;
there is a lot of room for individual work and discussions; drinks, fruits
and sandwiches are freely available in adjacent rooms; meals can be taken
in Erice restaurants of your choice (most of them have an convention with
the Centre, so that meals are included in the conference fee with the
exception of drinks).

One or two excursions will be organized during the conference. Possible
destinations are the cathedral of Monreale and Greek temples in Sagesta.
