JSJ splittings

The first talk will be an introduction to the JSJ splitting of finitely presented groups: decompositions of 3-manifolds, JSJ splittings of hyperbolic groups, Makanin-Razborov diagrams. The second talk will discuss uniqueness issues and applications to automorphisms.
