Defects, Targets and Spirals in Rayleigh-Benard Convection

We report theoretical and experimental results on the dynamics of dislocations, targets, and giant rotating spirals in Rayleigh-Benard convection of a fluid of small Prandtl number. We show that spiral rotation is due to the competition of the wavelength selection properties of dislocations and targets.
