Birman-Murakami-Wenzl Algebras
by
Shona Yu
The University of Sydney
In this talk, I will introduce the Braid group and certain algebras which can be described in terms of ``braid-like'' diagrams. The main algebra we shall focus on is the Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (BMW) algebra. Some facts about the structure of this algebra will be stated and we shall investigate questions regarding a Coxeter type B ``analogue'' of the BMW algebra.
