Pseudovarieties and quasivarieties generated by regular semigroups; the finite basis problem.

We have made use of a recent construction of PM Higgins and SW Margolis to discover large classes of pseudovarieties and quasivarieties (of semigroups) that are generated by regular semigroups but are not finitely based. The talk includes background information along with a description of our results.
