Factorisation of formation residuals in finite groups

In a direct product of finite groups, the nilpotent residual of a subnormal subgroup decomposes as the direct product of its projections. In this talk we give a generalisation for arbitrary normal products, and attempt to characterise those formations whose residual enjoys an analogous property.
