Prospects of Agro-processing industries in Haryana (India)

In the present day context of opening up of the economy for international competition agro industries need to be given special status keeping in view their employment, potential and prevailing unemployment situation in general and that of rural unemployment in particular.
The study is based on secondary data scanned from various issues of Statistical abstract of Haryana and other published sources for the period 1980-81 to 1999-2000. The compound growth rates of production, employment and capital outlay on important agro industries of Haryana were worked out by fitting the various models. The trend analysis was done to examine the relationship between production, employment and capital over the time period. It may be concluded that agro industrialization is a viable proposition to increase employment in state of Haryana. The growth rates of production, employment and capital have found to be significantly positive in almost all the agro industries. The structure of agro industrial development under went significant change over time.
