In the last four decades many research articles have been devoted to the modifications and improvements of classes of preconditioners for linear systems whose matrix coefficient is a Z- or an M- type matrix in order to improve the convergence rates of the classical iterative schemes (like Jacobi, Gauss-Seidel, SOR, etc.). The present work constitutes an effort towards the generalization and unification of the most common preconditioners used so far.
