Subgroups of Thompson's group F

We will present several results about undistorted subgroups of Thomspon's group F. Interesting subgroups of F isomorphic to F ×Z and F ×F are seen to be quasi-isometrically embedded, as well as any cyclic subgroup.

On the way to prove that these subgroups are undistorted, upper and lower bounds for the word metric of F are found using the unique normal forms for its elements and the well-known geometric models for F.
