Partial orders on semigroups

We examine extensions of partial orders on semigropus with the goal of extending them to a full linear order. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for extending a partial order on an idempotent semigroup to a full order We also give necessary and sufficient conditions in the case of cancellation semigroups and show the cancellation property is necessary.
