Locally finite nearness spaces and uniformly continuous maps are shown to form a bireflective subcategory of NEAR. The locally finite nearness structure generated by the collection of locally finite open covers of a symmetric topological space is studied. Under suitable conditions, the completion of such a space is shown to be the smallest paracompact subspace of the Wallman compactification containing the original space.
