In this paper we investigate two classes of continua which we call Suslinian and weakly Suslinian. While the former was introduced by A. Lelek in 1971, the latter is being introduced by the author of this paper. We will show that in the class of locally connected unicoherent continua, these two among other things, are actually equivalent. We also prove that many classical examples of indecomposable continua, such as the Buckethandle and the solenoids, are weakly Suslinian. However, we will see that the class of hereditarily indecomposable continua and the class of weakly Suslinian continua are two mutually exclusive classes.
